Textiles are the ancient branch of engineering.
Now textile engineering study is becoming more demand-able then before. Because textiles have not only used for wearing but also hugely used in different sectors like technical textiles. Many research works are being done on textiles.
We have entered a new age of experimentation at retail, with an assortment of prototypes and new concepts opening in the coming months.
You can take it as a sign retailers are feeling comfortable enough with the economy to begin testing new formulas. Or you could consider it an attempt by decades-old retailers to come up with something new.
Bed Bath & Beyond: The Chelsea store in Manhattan is constantly in flux, but the big new thing opening there this month is a World Market home furnishings shop. Know what’s even bigger and potentially cooler? The 100,000-sq.-ft. store BBB is setting up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. When it opens next year, it will house four BBB nameplates in one location: Bed Bath & Beyond, buybuy Baby, Cost Plus World Market, and Harmon Face Values.
Target Urban Express: First opened in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown commercial neighorhood a year ago this month, the small-format concept is geared to urban professionals. Two more recently opened on the West Coast (the San Francisco Financial District and Berkeley, Calif.). As seen on popsugar.com, the merchandise is grab-and-go: salads and sandwiches, accessories an office worker might need in a pinch (necklaces, ties, socks), phone accessories, iPads, and desk basics (picture frames, coffee mugs, notebooks). Target is opening six more this year, including Chicago, Washington DC, San Diego, and St. Paul, Minn.
Kohl’s Off Aisle: The first unit opened a couple of weeks ago in Cherry Hill, NJ. The initial assortment consists of returned merchandise in good condition – “like-new” clothing, accessories and home goods, per Kohl’s. Judging from a couple of flickr images out there, it looks like a tidier version of my local Marshalls store. The company is characterizing Off Aisle as a test.
Macy’s Back Stage: Macy’s hadn’t even opened its first four Back Stage stores before it decided it needed two more. Macy’s is hewing to the true off-price model with a mix of clearance goods and “specialty buys,” i.e., stuff ordered specifically for the format. This fall we’ll get our first look at stores in Brooklyn (Sheepshead Bay), Queens (Queens Place), The Bronx (Fordham Place), New Hyde Park, NY (Lake Success Shopping Center), Huntington, NY (Melville Mall), and West Orange, NJ (Essex Green Shopping Center).
Sears hybrid stores: Sear’s reason for leasing out in-store space to Primark clearly has more to do with generating cash than resuscitating a venerable brand. However, when the budget-minded Irish clothing chain opens in seven Sears locations in the latter half of this year, it’s going to be worth taking a look at – if only to see what Sears does with the space it continues to occupy. Coming soon to: Staten Island, NY (Staten Island Mall); Freehold, NJ (Freehold Raceway Mall); Danbury, Conn. (Danbury Fair); Burlington, Mass. (Burlington Mall); Braintree, Mass. (South Shore Plaza); King of Prussia, Pa. (King of Prussia Mall); and Willow Grove, Pa. (Willow Grove Park Mall).
From home textiles to contract textiles – Messe Frankfurt offers the most important and biggest platforms for manufacturers, the trade, designers and interior architects.
Present in the most important economic regions
The international range of interior and contract textiles is to be seen at eight different venues and this spectrum illuminates the various key aspects of the sector and the individual markets. In this connection, the Heimtextil in Frankfurt is the world’s leading trade fair for the sector by a wide margin. Held every year in January, it is the most important source of impulses at the beginning of the season.
Additionally, high-grade special shows, workshops and trend forums generate valuable impulses for the market and ensure precise know-how transfer.
